What is included
Grinding, honing, crystallisation and sealing for marble, travertine and terrazzo, gloss metered to 85 GU. Marble dulls because the surface is scratched and etched, not because it is dirty. We restore the stone with diamond abrasives, bring back the shine and seal it against the next spill.
- Furniture moved and skirting and joinery protected with tape and sheet
- Wet honing with diamond pads in stepped grits to the agreed finish
- Slurry lifted with a wet vacuum after each pass
- Penetrating sealer applied once the stone has dried
How we carry out marble honing to a matt finish
Many newer villas and apartments use marble or limestone with a honed finish: smooth to the touch, soft in the light and without the mirror shine of older homes. That finish shows wear differently. Traffic lanes go patchy, sand scratches the surface near the doors, and lemon juice or a harsh cleaning product leaves dull etch rings. Crystallisation, the usual polishing method, would put back a hard gloss, which is the wrong answer here. The supervisor agrees the target finish on a test area first.
Honing is done wet with diamond pads under a rotary machine, starting at a coarser grit to take out scratches and etching, then stepping finer until the floor matches the agreed satin or matt look. Slurry is lifted with a wet vacuum after each pass so it does not dry into the joints, and the rooms next door are protected from splashes. Once the stone has dried, a penetrating sealer goes on to slow staining. Deep chips and cracks are filled separately and noted on the job record.
How it works
The same method on every job, so the result does not depend on who is on shift.
- Survey and diagnosis. A technician inspects the system or surface, takes readings and photographs, and explains what was found in plain language.
- Written quotation. You receive a written quotation against a defined scope before any work starts. Anything outside that scope is quoted separately.
- Protected, supervised work. The work area is protected and isolated, and the job is carried out by our own technicians under a named supervisor.
- Testing. Every job ends with a measured test suited to the discipline, so the result is a reading and a photograph and not an opinion.
- Report and warranty. The completed report reaches you within the hour. Any failed point is put right free of charge within 48 hours.
What your quotation depends on
A quotation for marble honing to a matt finish follows a site visit. The supervisor looks at the points listed here and you receive a written quotation with a defined scope before any work begins. Once you accept it, nothing is added on the day.
- Size and type of the system or surface
- Present condition and ease of access
- Parts and materials specified
- One visit or a retained contract

Questions about marble honing to a matt finish
What does marble honing to a matt finish include?
Smooth satin or matt honed finishes restored on modern marble and limestone floors. Scratches and etching come out with diamond pads, and no crystallisation shine is applied. The work includes furniture moved and skirting and joinery protected with tape and sheet; wet honing with diamond pads in stepped grits to the agreed finish; slurry lifted with a wet vacuum after each pass.
Can a polished marble floor be changed to a honed finish?
It can, by honing it down past the polish with diamond pads to the satin or matt level you choose. A test area is done first so you can see it. A honed floor shows less wear but takes stains more readily, so sealing matters.
Why not use crystallisation on a honed floor?
Crystallisation works by a chemical reaction that leaves a hard shine on the surface. On a floor chosen for a matt look, that gloss changes the character of the stone, and on limestone it can leave a patchy result. Diamond honing keeps the finish true.
How much does marble honing to a matt finish cost in Dubai?
We do not publish prices, because no two jobs are the same. The main factors: size and type of the system or surface; present condition and ease of access. Book a site visit: a supervisor from The MELLS looks at the work and you receive a written quotation with a defined scope before anything begins.
Who provides marble honing to a matt finish in Dubai?
The MELLS provides marble honing to a matt finish in Dubai. The work is carried out by people The MELLS employs directly, under a named supervisor, 08:00 to 19:00, Monday to Saturday. To arrange it, book a site visit on this page or call +971 55 444 0084.
How long does marble honing to a matt finish take?
Typically one to three days for most homes. The time for your property is confirmed with the quotation.
How long does marble polishing last?
One to three years in a home, depending on traffic and care. Sealing and pH neutral cleaning extend it.
Is polishing dusty?
No. Stone is polished wet, and slurry is vacuumed as we go.
Can etch marks and stains be removed?
Etch marks are polished out. Most stains are drawn out with a poultice.
How do I choose a company for marble honing to a matt finish in Dubai?
Ask four things: who employs the people who will come, whether the scope is written down before work starts, how the result is checked, and what happens if something is missed. The MELLS uses its own staff, quotes in writing after a site visit, checks every job (a measured test for every job, with photographs before and after) and puts right any failed check free of charge within 48 hours.
